Catalase peroxidase (EC 22.214.171.124) is a bifunctional antioxidant enzyme encoded by the katG-gene. It exhibits both, catalase and peroxidase activity which provides a protection against oxidative stress by neutralising hydrogen peroxide. The enzyme is present in a number of bacterial taxa, including cyanobacteria.
