Antibody aggregation may happen during:

  • reconstitution from lyophilized format
  • prolonged storage

Before any antibody is used in Western blot or another application, the solution should be quickly checked if no aggregates are formed.

The reasons for antibody precipitation in the solution are following:

vigorous vortexing and pippeting
  • Freeze-thaw cycles
  • temperature changes
  • pH near isoelectric point
  • lack of additives like glycerol or other compounds which prevent aggregation

For catalogue antibodies, always check product information sheet on recommended reconstitution and storage conditions.
