Agrisera Prize 2019 at Umeå Plant Science Centre

Jan Karlsson received the UPSC Agrisera Prize 2019 to acknowledge his ceaseless technical support for the UPSC community at UPSC (Umeå Plant Science Centre). The announcement was done during the Christmas lunch, and the motivation from one of the nominations was as follows: "He is always there for the whole institute to help to solve all kind of technical, computational, mechanical or physical strength-requiring problems. He has spent the night at work to make sure that the backup power system will not fail when there was a planned overnight power interruption. He did a tremendous amount of work with Thomas Hiltonen for the moving of Plant Physiology Department during the moving out from old labs, the reconstruction and moving into the new lab. He supervises all growth chambers, shakers and cabinets, and he is the one, who we hope to find in his office when we need a solution for a challenging technical issue. People can always ask for his advice or help, independently from which department they belong to."

This year the prize was presented by Joanna Porankiewicz-Asplund from Agrisera and by the chair of the UPSC Board, Catherine Bellini. From left to right: Joanna Porankiewicz-Asplund (Agrisera), Catherine Bellini (Chair of the UPSC board), Jan Karlsson. Photo: Anne Honsel.
